658 words · ◷ 0

This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, places and incidents are the product of the author's imagination. All characters are adults aged 18 or over.

My girlfriend and I had been together for about 300 days.

She'd mentioned having an older sister before… but I never, ever dreamed they were twins.

She never outright said they were twins—just called her "older sister." And I just assumed that's all she was. No big deal.

Neither of us had any idea that such a tiny, innocent conversation would nearly blow up into a full-blown disaster.

Anyway, I headed over to her place full of anticipation.

That day, my girlfriend had texted me:

“Honey!! I've got a real surprise for you today!! Haha, come expecting something good!! ^_^"

Of course, I was excited. I couldn't wait.

I arrived around 9 PM. I was supposed to be there by 7, but I dawdled and ended up two hours late.

I raced over, eager to soothe her—she was probably sulking after I kept her waiting.

When I reached the front door, I rang the bell once. No answer.

I rang again. Still nothing. The apartment was eerily quiet.

Just in case, I tried the door handle.

To my surprise… it opened.

The living room was pitch dark.

Thinking she might still be mad at me, I quietly slipped in and lay down beside her on the couch, trying to wake her gently.

But the moment I touched her, I froze.

She was asleep in nothing but her underwear.

“Honey… are you mad I'm late? I'm sorry~~ Wake up, okay?”

I shook her lightly once, twice. She didn't stir.

I gently touched her shoulder again, leaning close to whisper in her ear.

Suddenly, someone behind me flipped the lights on.

“Hey! You idiot! Are you gonna come out or what??”

Huh?! I couldn't believe my eyes.

Right in front of me—lying asleep—was my girlfriend.

And standing behind me… was also my girlfriend. No… wait. Twins.

My actual girlfriend started yelling in shock, which woke up her twin sister, who slowly opened her eyes.

“What… what's going on? Why's it so loud? Ahng… Huh?! KYAAAAAA~~”

She had every right to scream. I'm lucky I didn't get slapped.

Seriously. What the hell had just happened?

It turned out her twin sister had originally been on her way to the countryside, but got called into work last minute and had to come back home.

She was so exhausted she passed out on the couch.

Meanwhile, my actual girlfriend had left the house to buy supplies for the surprise she was planning for me.

And I… walked in during that exact window… and nearly made the most embarrassing mistake of my life.

I apologized profusely to her twin sister, begging her to understand I had no idea.

I nearly burst into tears that night.

Thankfully, she was understanding—she knew I didn't mean anything by it—so she let it go.

We ended up drinking together, the three of us.

The sisters each went to their rooms, and I slept on the couch.

Even as I lay down, my heart kept pounding.

I finally fell asleep—only to wake up the next morning with both of them standing over me, grinning.

Then they started teasing me, taking turns.

“Honey~ Which one's your real wife?~?~?”

Phew. No matter how hard I looked… I couldn't tell. Seriously.

They were that identical. The only way to tell them apart? One tiny mole.

Her sister has a mole near her collarbone. My girlfriend doesn't.

Anyway, the sister left right after breakfast for work.

And the two of us—finally alone—got to finally do what we'd been waiting for.

But even then, I kept asking—over and over again:

“Honey… you are really my girlfriend, right???”

I must've said it dozens of times.

Sorry if I'm not much of a storyteller. Maybe it wasn't funny to you? Haha.

But for me? I nearly died from cold sweat.
